Another corker of an episode from Dave and James as they discuss all manner of stupidities, that seem to make the world go around, all assisted by the trusty Barefoot Radler. A real mixed bag of issues today from Syphillis mascots, to Melons and the all pervasive Silent but Deadly, you’ll find it all here in Episode 11, of Two Schooners.

If you’re enjoying the shows, you can also review us in iTunes, which helps us keep Two Schooners in view of potential new listeners. If you can think of someone else who might enjoy the show, don’t forget to tell them about it.

  1. Ha! It’s about time I posted something using Canadian vernacular that you Aussies couldn’t read!

rooked: Swindled or cheated (not Canadian, but old English slang)

snack-pack: From my younger days when 6 beer just wasn’t enough to get me drunk, I had to buy 12-packs to get anywhere so a 6-pack became a “snack pack”. Don’t look at the Urban Dictionary’s definition.

two-four: Typical Canadian reference to a case of 24 beer. Also sometimes called “a square” although the case is rectangular, which doesn’t really matter if you’re drunk.

I was in the liquor store the other night (or the “bottle shop” as you lot call it) and got 8 pint cans of Guinness for $11.75 plus deposit. Mmmm…

Also I somehow doubt it when Dave says his passing wind doesn’t have an odour. It probably doesn’t smell to him, but I think the cat just fainted… That’s what you get for Twittering in the dunny!

  2. great show once again guys, just finished listening to it again. also, i’m glad The Herne explained those few things above, had me stuck. But still, “and got 8 pint cans of Guinness for $11.75 plus deposit. Mmmm…” plus deposit? you need to put a down payment on beer in Canada??

  3. @mattoid12 and does it mean you have to return the beer in order to get your deposit back? Because mine wouldn’t be in any fit state to return.

  4. maybe he has to fill it back up with…something, then return it for his deposit??

  5. Actually, I lied, it was $13.75, plus 10 cents deposit on each can. Take the cans back and collect the deposit… s’posed to encourage recycling or something.

As a kid I would often go around on Saturday or Sunday mornings after the local college kids had their “field parties” and collect the empty bottles for pocket money.

  6. ahh…well thats a far better idea isn’t it. good stuff that recycling. in western australia here our cans and stuff say 10cent deposit when returned to recycling depot. good enough except that depot is in South Australia

  9. Yey we have beer suggestions!!! w00T!!

Thanks Scratchy!! The only one to heed the call!!

And yes I love that video, awesome stuff.

Thanks Herne for the clarification… nice reversal of situation for us :)

Missed the whole recycling conversation… I just put it in the yellow bin… empty. The other deposit ends up in various places, the garden a lot as it is outside the office and I could not be bothered going upstairs.

  10. Re Beers I’ve had from that list;
Tsingtao – Not bad, a nice light taste.
Sleemans Cream Ale – It’s ok, not my first choice, but I drink it.
    Hoegaarden – Pretty nice stuff.
Budweiser – I’d rather drink dirty water.

    More beers to look for;
Harp Lager – Irish lager made by Guinness.
    Kilkenny – Irish cream ale.
Smithwicks – Irish red ale, very yummy.
Rickard’s Red – Brewed here in Canada by Molson’s.
Rickard’s White – Brewed in the Belgian tradition by Molson’s.
Rickard’s Honey Brown – Brewed in traditional English brown ale style by Molson’s.
Heineken – No need to explain.
Murphy’s Irish Stout – similar to Guinness, but a bit more bitter and a bit more creamy texture.
Boddington’s Pub Ale – “Cream of Manchester,” another bitter, lighter than Guinness.
    Becks – Nice smooth lager.
Orkney Raven Ale – English pale ale brewed in Scotland, hard to find in Canada.
Skullsplitter – Scotch ale, bit heavy, brewed in Scotland.
The Red MacGregor – another Scotch ale, haven’t found it outside of Scotland.
Otter Ale – Pride of Devon! Really nice ale, haven’t found it outside of England.
Otter Bright – Pale ale, nice and light, haven’t found outside of England.
Otter Bitter – Not a bad bitter, again not found outside of England.
Strongbow – English hard cider made from apples, slightly acidic.
Blackthorne – another hard cider, slightly more tart and sweeter than Strongbow.
Magners Irish Cider – yet another hard cider, smooth, sweet taste.
Sir Perry’s – hard cider made from pears, very light taste, not my favorite.
