We sit here with our Barefoot Radlers and shake our collective heads at a bunch of crazy stories that made their way into the bag this week, in an episode we can only describe as “Surely you’re taking the piss!”

This show comes with a general warning that new media sites are bad for your health, as we uncover the latest in the range of cost-recovery methods from Ryanair, The Irish budget airline that’s Irish in the every sense of the word. We uncover more octopus hi jinx, the worst dressed and we have an obligatory whinge at escalating ATM fees.

If you’re enjoying the shows, you can also review us in iTunes, which helps us keep Two Schooners in view of potential new listeners. If you can think of someone else who might enjoy the show, don’t forget to tell them about it.

  2. I meant to send a comment earlier, but my brain has been damaged by Social websites.

Regarding that woman throwing a fit at the boarding gate, I think I would’ve called her an ambulance and sent her for a psychiatric evaluation rather than apologize to her. Freaky people!

Regarding the “porno plane”… Sometimes you just gotta shake your head and wonder what is wrong with people’s brains these days. Well, I guess that video is a perfect example. People are so bloody stupid. I have no idea why anyone would care what is on the outside of the plane they’re flying in… who is going to see it at 40,000 ft anyway? “Oh look, I can see Joe in that plane up there with the naked woman on it! I’m gonna tell EVERYONE I saw Joe in the naked plane!” People really need to grow up a bit.

As to banking fees, they are quite high here in Canada as well. I remember once having to pay out $30 in fees on a $20 cheque. I opened my bank account over 20 yrs ago and got an account with a very low interest rate, but no fees on anything as long as I keep a minimum balance of like $1000 in it. The bank is continually asking me to change my account over to one of the newer accounts where I can get something like 3% interest and no fees on anything…for a mere $19.95 a month. And I always look at them and say, “WHY would I pay you $20 a month for a ‘no fee’ account when I’m getting that now for $0 a month?” and they tell me that I can get 3% interest! Big freakin deal, they give me 3% interest, which amounts to about $10 and then they take $20 for the account? What the hell is wrong with these people? I also have to pay a $1.50 fee if I use an ATM other than the bank’s ATM, plus they charge me $3.00 PLUS a premium exchange rate if I use an International ATM. Also for a while my bank was only open on weekdays from 10am to 4pm, no weekends and I made a big noise asking them who exactly they thought would be able to do their normal banking between 10am and 4pm on a weekday? Senior citizens? Eventually they got enough complaints and changed their hours, but still…

Yeah, emergency McNugget shortage… tragic. Typical for that particular country. ;P In Canada you get what you pay for, if the company you’re purchasing from cannot supply what they’ve agreed to sell you at the money you have paid, then they have to give you your money back.

Reminds me of the whole “gift card” scam that companies used to have. Someone would buy you say a $100 gift card and the company would put an expiry date on it. Some of them even had user fees that you had to pay on the card for every month you didn’t use it! Until the government finally stepped in and said, “You accepted $100 from this person for $100 in goods. You cannot expire the card nor can you charge user fees on it. A $100 gift card is worth $100 until it is redeemed.”

Get that mutherf*ckin snake out of my mutherf*ckin car!

I’m waiting for Aussie currency printed on poo paper. Who says the banks don’t stink!

Here’s a link to Boris Johnson… He looks a bit disheveled.

Thanks for those “live” replies, Dave. ;P

    Corporation t-shirts, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you’ve been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman (woo), they are the eggmen (woo), I am the walrus,
    goo goo goo joob

[Apparently "Koo koo kachoo" is not what they say...even though that's what everyone sings... according to the lyric website that I pulled up. What do they know anyway?]

  4. UPDATE: Ryan Air have decided that it would be a problem for customers to have a coin slot in the restroom doors because of differing currencies, so they are now looking in to getting a restroom door with a credit card reader in it!

You can’t make this stuff up! Here’s a link.

  5. OK so we know Banks rip people off. So buy shares in the Banks! You can us the sheep mentality of Aussie to your advantage. ANZ is around about $12 a share at the moment. For that you get a share that give a dividend (money)that is fully franked (so 30% tax already paid on it.

    http://www.anz.com/aus/shares/services/dividends/history.asp

Oh and check out Bankwest for fee free account (Hero account and Zero account) the only problem is they have just been recently bought by Commonwealth Bank so expect the more conservative fee structure of CBA to creep in.

Hero pays around 3% interest, has a free 100 buck overdraft and zero fees. Hows them apples?

  6. Perhaps I’ll make it clearer for those who can’t do the maths.

    Inflation is around the 3%.
Banks give you around 3% and charge bank fees. You will also be taxed at the full rate for that.
Buying shares in the bank will return you (in ANZ example) around the 10% for which the tax has already been paid. Plus the shares could go up (or down) but if they go up, you can sell them to make more.
