  1. Regarding holidays here in Canada;

    From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Canada

    There are approximately 11 “Public” holidays here in Canada. These are dates that have been legislated and observed by most people Canada-wide, this includes Xmas, New Years Day, and so on. We often call these a “statutory holiday” or “stat holiday”. Where I work, I get 8-hours pay for each of these days whether I work on that day or not. If I work on a stat holiday, I get 8-hours pay plus I get paid my normal rate for every hour I work that day. Some unionized people get paid “time and a half” or 1.5 times their pay rate when they work on a stat holiday. Overtime pay (which is anything over 88 hours in a 2-week period here in Ontario) is also paid at “time and a half.”

    For time off here in Ontario, the government says that every employee MUST have the opportunity to take at least 2 weeks holiday during the year. Employers with full-time employees generally set aside an extra 4% of the employee’s wages as “holiday pay” which is then collected by the employee during this 2-week vacation. Holiday pay is additional pay on top of your normal pay.

    Some employers allow employees to “bank” their holiday pay to use or collect at any time during the year. My employer allows me to bank holiday pay and/or overtime pay so that I could take time off in lieu of collecting extra wages in overtime. I believe I currently have about 37 days “banked” because I was planning on taking a month off in the Spring to go to the UK…but I don’t think that’s going to happen now.

  2. Well, thats it. you’ve done it, convinced me to give beer a real good go eh. (i know i know, how could i have listened and resisted for so long!) but as you can see, i now realize what i’ve been missing out on and i look forward to flying out home to full strength beer and many more flavours….perhaps a buddha beer? after all, the bottle IS shaped like me ;)

  3. @Mattoid awesome! To be honest in has only been in the last few years I have enjoyed a beer. But since doing 2Schooners and actually going out of my way to try different beers I have really started to enjoy drinking it. I have found beers that I really like and appreciate. I am starting to taste the different subtle flavors and know what I like.

    It sounds like your a bit like me – try some of the ones that I have been drinking! James tends to like fuller flavors than I do – hence they are stronger tasting and rich to my pallet – me I like the larger/pilsner types like Sol, Corona and Barefoot Radler.

    Let us know how your dive into beer works out :)

  4. Believe it or not, a good beer is a lot like a good wine… There is a lot going on in that little brown bottle. And like wine, you can get the cheap swill and drink 40 bottles of it, or you can spend a bit more and get a good-tasting beer.

    When I drink beer I prefer the European imports. I’ll only drink one or two pints of the “good stuff” during one sitting… Unless I’m at a party, and then I’ll down 20 of the cheap swill (and regret it in the morning).

    I haven’t had Sol or Barefoot Radler, but I have had Corona and it does nothing for me. I find Corona to be very light and watery, but that’s just me.

  6. If you can get Barefoot Radler to sponsor us then go for it! Any beer company for that matter!! Well maybe not Fosters – but that is equivalent to camel piss and is in no way even close to what I would call beer…

    We would love a boutique beer company to sponsor us – so if you fit the bill and find yourself laughing at 2Schooners and like what we might be able to do for you then please drop us a line or an email – you can even visit the Partner with us page and check out all the details.

    Now we just need to wait for the big call!

    And you lot that listen to the show don’t forget you can shout us a beer

    /grovelling for a sponsor…

  8. found a Kiwi Radler the other day at the local IGA… bottled by Monteiths, but can’t remember its exact name… not as fruity as the Barefoot Radler…

    here’s a reference link, from a great beer review site
