  1. First up thanks for the Shout out!…

I’ve been a huge fan of the Shadowforge miniatures and Neil (The scupltor) has been a friend for many years even before he desided to start the company. He was one of the people who introduced me to Blood Bowl back in the days he was running Tin Soldier in Wollongong (NSW). I think I have 3 or 4 of his teams and unfortunately my wife won’t let me paint those figures… at the moment.

Shadowing has to be one of my favourite skills for Wardancers and other bigger end players like werewolves as you keep after the person you want and can get them where you want them. Combining it with frenzy is a nasty thing as well… find the person your after… follow them where ever they go and then knock them into the crowd with Frenzy is just nasty.

Any chance you can put a call out to any blood bowl clubs around the place? I’m looking for one since I moved and so far haven’t been put onto one.

Also you might be interested in my Necromantic team that I’ve ‘resurrected’ of late which you can see here: http://www.talesfromthewarzone.com/?p=148

  3. Hey nice show guys ;)

wanted to add a thing into the “hailmary” segment you talked about.

I’ve have used quite a lot on my Skaven team, and isn’t only useful when you throw the ball back in the field. Even if you throw to a place when the oponent can reach the ball first, if you are a big movility team you will have easier to Cover that guy who picked the ball. Anway, he has a lonely guy with the ball somewhere in the pitch…with tons of rats on he’s way :).

  4. [...] haven't played Ogres myself, but Episode 9 of the Tacklezone Radio Podcast is devoted to Ogres and contains a lot of infomation from Bouf from the Talk Fantasy Football [...]

  5. Hey guys, just listened to your latest episode, first ever and I’ve been very impressed :)

Me and some friends in Brighton, UK have decided to get together for a mini BB league, we all need to do some socialising outside of the pub!

Other than me, nobody has really played before (I was in the local GW league 15 years ago), do you have any advice about how we should run things, how to keep people engaged, encouraging them to get their own teams etc. etc.

Keep up the good work, great to see BB is still going strong after all these years :)

Oh! And if you can give a shout out to Wargames Heaven, a hobby store that just opened up in Brighton, please do, I’d desperate for them to succeed over the local GW store and their hard selling ways!

  6. Nice show guys. Here is an idea. Why don’t you have 2 50 minute shows instead of 1 1:40 show? Shorter biweekly shows would be better. You do not have to do every segment in every show.

As for giving up a team, I just got pants in my local league with my Chaos vs the top players necromancer where he killed my Mino while earning like 70K, 23 SPP to my 5 SPP and 10K winnings. Going to be hard to bring my team back up to a reasonable value anytime soon since I just cannot get an injuries against my opponents which means no SPP and no way to get those skills to get more injuries. Horrible cycle. Got at least 5 more games this season so I will see if I can turn it around. Next game is against another botton feeder hopefully for a win.

Painting a Team Shawn, I am proud to have 29 unpainted distinct blood bowl team. Some are partially painted but non can field an 11 painted player roster.

  7. Great work guys, now I have some fresh material to listen to while I’m painting up my teams – yes, I use TZR as my background audio while I’m painting.

One thing that has surprised me – you’re covering all these races, and haven’t actually covered the races that come out of the basic boxed set for those that are starting out their blood bowl lives.

Oh, That singing to start the show was terrible… good job.

As for the Ogre tactics, you’ve provided me with some interesting thoughts there, although one thing I would consider adding in to the stunty team discussions is selection of inducements to go with the team, as it’s fairly common that stunty teams end up with them.

Personally with ogres, I’m a fan of grabbing Nobbla and having a chainsaw run around with the ogres…

With regards to painting a team: I’m happy to play either, but don’t feel that i’ve got the “character” of my team right until all the models i’m using are painted… and having a coach and apothecary model adds to that “character”. (although my coach turns into my turn marker…). Also for some reason this tends to affect my luck with the team. Only recently did I finish painting the models being used in my skaven team, and BOOM: instant feeling of success out of the last game, even though I drew. Probably because I don’t have to get journeymen for the next game…

Painted = luck? or is it just more pleasing to Nuffle to see my painted models running around rather than some lumps of metal?

  8. Do not fear guys, you have a silent group of lurkers out here listening but silent as a gutter runner. Glad to see some stunty love. I’m always brought down low by the ever popular “blitz a skink” tactics of my opponents. Hopefully your advice will keep a few more skinks on the field instead of in the injury box.

  11. Another great episode. Any chance of of either adding a tournament roster/skill choice part to the race coverage or maybe doing a complete episode on tournament selections?

I dont get to play locally in a league so tournament scene is my play time. It would be cool to hear your takes on roster selections and skill selections for tourney play.

I realize different tourneys have different rules but listing a general roster and skill choices would be cool. Most tourneys you cannot give a guy more than 1 skill and there are usually never more than 6 skills total to get whethe rits all up fron tor over time playing.

Anyways, keep up the great work!

  13. Having just listened to the most recent Zlurpcast (at the time of writing) I’m glad to see that Shawn is a fan of Darkest of the Hillside Thickets. I suppose it was obvious given that Rocket Science is the new Tacklezone Radio theme tune.

    Eagerly awaiting the next show.

  14. Great show, got me really interested in getting an Ogre team, especially after seeing the Heresy Deathball Ogres. One question though: do you find the regular Blood Bowl board ok for playing with a team with six big guys? I imagine it’d be a real pain, especially when they start getting knocked over.

Also I can vouch for Shadowforge’s Elf team – they’re great figures and I FINALLY got them all painted up (while listening to your podcast of course). I’ll take some pictures and upload them to the Facebook group some time soon. Now to find someone to play against…

  15. I can offer some advice on using that many Big Guys on a regular Blood Bowl pitch – we’ve seen six Big Guys on a pitch before, including the Heresy Deathball Ogres (who are fantastic, I highly recomend them). It is a problem, particularly if they’re all in base contact or involved in a large ruck. The best advice I can give is to use tokens to represent when they’ve been knocked down, which can also help paint chipping.

  16. Hey guys! Great show as always :) Nathan you are doing a great job as a Shawn wrangler. I know it’s a tough job :P

RE: 20:52 -I’m finally set up in the UK in London and getting into the BB scene over here. The league I’m going to start playing in is a good size (and takes place in a pub) as well as including Lycos (yes THAT Lycos – NAF President).

Good timing with the Ogres. I ran a trial game with proxies and the craziness of the Snotlings really got me. So they are my next hobby project to turn into a team. I agree that they are a team you want to play to have fun instead of win. I mean 20k fouling projectiles? Awesome :)

Looking forward to hearing more and also contributing to TZR again (check the TZR email)

  17. Yet another great show lads.

Can’t wait for the next ones!

Any experience with the Cyanide game on other platforms, especially DS and PSP? Would love to hear a review of the gameplay for those after experiencing the “main game” on PC and Xbox360.

Keen to see a regen team get a discussion in coach’s corner, like maybe Necromantic since I’ve seen them have such great success!

  18. Hey guys loved your tactics on Ogres as i play them in the New Zealand capital league in wellington, and have not had much success, but when you do its a real satisfaction that a play has worked or you actually win a game.

you gave me heaps of ideas and especially that skills that i don’t take, so thanks for the insight hopefully it will make them better to play.

i have one question tho what about stat increases as this was not mentioned? when is it a good time to take them the strength 6 ogre the ag increase or movement, especially on the Ogres.

As my dream it is to create a boneheaded Morg.

Thanks for the help guys awesome work.

  20. I like love this show.
What I would love even more is a podcast about Goblins.
(And I’m not talking about those chaos lover looser betrayal gobbos I’m talking about maniacs with chainsaws here!)

Do a cast about Goblins! (please?)

greetings from Vienna (Austria – no, NOT where the roos are from, you should know that)

  22. Regarding your comments on Dauntless, our league use to have a Werwolf with Block and Dauntless. The coach was not great and relied too much on it but that piece was a Big Guy killer…

  23. To pop on the Rules Lawyer hat, “Diving Tackle may be used on a re-rolled dodge if not declared for use on the first Dodge roll.”

Implying that if you used it on the first dodge, it is not available for the reroll. Hence, Diving Tackle + Tackle is for awesome.

  24. Take back what I said above. I have been convinced that DT does indeed apply to the 2nd roll if it was used on the first, and also that it can be used on the 2nd if not used on the first.
